Well known snooker player Mark Selby mounted a stunning comeback to beat other snooker player Ronnie O’Sullivan in last night’s final of the Welsh Snooker Open.

The world No. 11 was 8-5 down and staring defeat in the face in Newport but he fought back in fine style to win four frames in a row to secure his first title in a ranking event. His win was an impressive follow up to his snooker victory in the SAGA Masters last month at Wembley.

The flair snooker player, O’Sullivan does not tend to fare well against slower, methodical players such as Selby and can at times seem to lose his concentration. Snooker player Selby shines at playing exceptional safety shots which at times seemed to exasperate the quick minded O’Sullivan, who prefers to take on pots rather than always play safe snooker game. During the snooker opening session, which lasted a marathon three hours, O’Sullivan spent long periods of time writing in his chair and was even seen mouthing ‘I’m bored!’ during a lengthy fifth frame. Despite his frustration, he made a 108 break in draw level at 4-4 and soon went 8-5 ahead with runs of 93, 135, 63 and 54. At that stage snooker player seemed the clear favourite to take best snooker title, but patient Selby had other ideas.
In the deciding frame, Selby made a break of 48 to put him in the driving seat, before O’Sullivan had one last chance to steal it. However, having failed in his attempt to dislodge a red from the side cushion, he lost his cool and took on a very risky double to the middle pocket, which did not come off. Mark Selby seized his opportunity to return to the table to clear up and collect his £35,000 first prize and the Welsh Open title. Where next for the in form Selby?
