Ronnie Alcano failed to notch up enough winning racks at the 33rd Annual US Open 9-Ball Championships last Sunday – held at the Chesapeake Convention Center in Virginia. Alcano failed to perform to his best ability as Mika Immonen seized the final, winning with 13-7.

Finland’s star player cleared the table previously against Alcano’s fellow Filipino Warren Kiamco 11-9. Immonen has since become the 23rd player to raise the title, along with a generous prize fund of $40,000. Alcano received the runner-up prize of $20,000 for the second consecutive year – last year he lost out to US cue star Shane Van Boeing.

Alcano, a member of the Billiards Managers and Players Association spoke of his loss,

‘I failed. I controlled our first game but I lost my momentum. I was not lucky with my breaks and the ball favoured my opponent.’ Alcano hasn’t held a title since winning the World 8-ball Championships last March.

‘I will just try my best in the next tournaments,’ said the 35 yr old.

Ronnie has the chance to redeem himself and hopefully make up for the loss against Mika when they meet at the forthcoming First Senate President Manny Villar Cup Bacolod leg on November 13th to 16th in Bacolod City.

Alcano will be playing with the Quezon City Philippines.
