China To Host Yet Another Snooker Tournament
A competitive new tournament is about to take place next month in China. The 2008 Guolian Securities World Snooker Jiangsu Classic will play host to 8 of the world’s best snooker players.
World Snooker announced this week that the event’s title sponsor is Guolian Securities. The security company work alongside asset management and investment banking services. Formerly known as Wuxi Security, the firm was established in 1992 and resides in China.

Shaun Murphy: 2005 World Snooker Champion
Mark Selby: 2008 SAGA Insurance Masters Champion and 2008 Welsh Open Champion
Ali Carter: Runner-up at the 2008 888.com World Snooker Championship
Ryan Day: Runner-up in the Roewe Shanghai Masters
Peter Ebdon: 2002 World Snooker Champion
Neil Robertson: Two-time ranking event winner
Ding Junhui: China’s top player and home favourite
Joe Perry: 888.com World Snooker semi-finalist
As well as the eight professionals mentioned, there will be the inclusion of four Asian wild-cards.
The competition is that little more extra-ordinary because it will change snooker history. For the first time in the sport, the tournament will be split between two different venues. The group stages and semi-finals will take place in the capital of the Jiangsu Province – Nanjing from June 4th till June 6th. The final will conclude in nearby Wuxi City, which is the home town of Ding Junhui on June 8th.
The exclusive snooker event is part of a new strategy from World Snooker, as it continues to raise awareness of the growing sport through the Chinese Market. There are plans in the future to host more ranking events in the region.
