The 888.com World Snooker Championship hosts, the BBC have raised a dispute over the amount of logos the snooker players are allowed to wear on their clothes during the tournament at the Crucible.

The BBC are broadcasting the prestigious tournament, which began last Saturday in Sheffield and, the competitors are furious about the decision. Snooker pro, Neil Robertson has lashed out at the host over the restriction and slammed the decision as ‘ridiculous.’

888.com signed a five year deal in 2005 and is the main and official sponsor for the World Snooker championships. The 888.com promoters have an agreement with the BBC that the players all wear their logo on their waistcoats. With the influence of 888.com, it leaves only one space left for another sponsor. The problem has become more serious for the players because some have had to pull out of lucrative sponsorship deals, thus losing them a substantial amount of money.

Robertson, from Australia said…

‘We need to make a stand as it’s costing us all a lot of money. After all, darts players can wear more than two logos and driving in formula one, which is returning to BBC screens next year, any number of them.’

The BBC covered the BDO Darts tournament in January and the players displayed four logos on their attire.

Steve Davis is in full agreement with Robertson and began a petition at the recent Honghe Industrial China Open and players, including Robertson showed no hesitation in signing. The petition has since been passed on to BBC Chiefs.

The 888.com World Snooker Championships ends on May 5th and is hosted by the BBC at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
