Ryan Day heads to the Crucible this weekend with the 888.com World Championship trophy in his sight.

The Welsh cueist has performed against the world’s best snooker players at the Crucible in previous years. In 2004 he became the first snooker player to make three centuries during his debut against current snooker champ John Higgins and in 2006 he lost to snooker superstar player Ronnie O’ Sullivan.

Within the past fourteen months of his professional snooker career, Day has reached two ranking finals and recently he reached the semi-final of the Honghe Industrial China Open. This time Ryan is thinking positive about the forthcoming World Championship.

‘I feel that I have a more rounded game than ever before, and that will stand me in good stead for the 17 days at Sheffield, if I’m there that long.’

The 28 yr old currently rests in 7th place in the provisional rankings,

‘Getting into the top eight of the official rankings was one of my goals for the season but my main goal now is to become 888.com World Champion. I’ve been to the Crucible three times now and never got past the last sixteen, but this time I’m going there as one of the most consistent players this season, and that gives me some confidence.’

Ryan will play against known snooker player Michael Judge in the first round of the tournament – This will commence at 10am on Sun April 20th, then concluding the following day at the same time.

‘I’ve beaten Michael a few times, but the last time we played was at the Welsh Open when he beat me 5-0, so he will be buoyed by that result. I’ve took a lot of positives out of the way I played in China so hopefully I can find that form again.’

Ryan will be participating in snooker’s most prestige tournament and is making sure he is fully prepared.

‘I have actually been struggling in practice – there seems to be something missing from my game- but I’ve got plenty of time to sort it out and I’m going up to the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield this week for my final preparations.’

Ryan and other snooker professionals will be competing in the 888.com World Snooker Championship which is to be held at the crucible Theatre in Sheffield. The tournament runs from April 19th to May 5th.
