Carter Wins Huangshan Cup

Ali Carter won China’s Huangshan Cup on Sunday by defeating Hong Kong’s Marco Fu. Carter has been on the professional snooker circuit for twelve years now and this is his second title. He also won the qualifying event at the 2000 Wembley Masters.
Carter was preceding his recent form when he made it to the final at the recent 888.com World Championships against Ronnie O Sullivan. The match against Fu was further proof that Ali Carter is becoming a threat in then world of snooker. It was also due to O’ Sullivan’s withdrawal from the tournament that Carter was allowed the chance to make it as a last minute entry.
Carter took the lead by 2-0 and then 3-2 in the final, and Marco Fu poised a threat when he equalized, making it 3-3 when he scored 139. The comeback by Fu was short-lived because Carter dominated the last few frames to take possession of China’s new title.
The 28 yr old champion has eared himself seventh place in the world snooker rankings because of his recent performances – which is the highest position in his career so far. He will also participate in yet another Chinese Invitational – The Jiangsu Classic which begins on June 4th. He will join 11 other snooker professionals.
In addition to the recent tournament, China’s crowd favourite, Ding Junhui reached the semi-final and made a generous and heartfelt pledge to the victims of the Sichuan earthquake by donating his £10,000 prize money.
